Anchor Leadership Summit was a huge success!

July 21, 2021 By Claire Wells

Anchor Leadership Summit was a huge success! Anchors created some beautiful art for Macon’s elementary schools, they rode Marta and dined at The Varsity, a true Atlanta icon, toured the World of Coke and heard some wonderful speakers. The connection they made with each other was incredible and inspirational to witness. I am extremely indebted to the Advisors and Chaperones who kept the pace going and worked hard to make this an incredible event for everyone. We came out with some wonderful ideas to keep Anchor strong and take it into the future. I am very excited about the upcoming year and incorporating the visions we shared and making this a great year for everyone.

We had the privilege of honoring a Compass member that attended Convention this year. Magdalene Skaziak from The Compass Club of Troy University came to Atlanta and joined Pilots for workshops and spoke to the Anchors about Compass. She has been involved in Anchor and Compass for 8 years and her enthusiasm has led Troy Compass to huge successes. We were pleased to have her meet the Anchors and share her experiences. President Peggy presented a Certificate of Recognition during the Awards Ceremony on Saturday as well.

An Historic Event: New Compass Club chartered

January 8, 2019 By Claire Wells

Club Name: The Compass Club of Covington County
District: Alabama

Sponsored by the Pilot Club of Andalusia

The Pilot Club of Andalusia this week chartered the first Compass Club since the club for younger men and women was reestablished.

Pilot International Secretary Collett Cross said that the moment marked a historical event.

“This is a historic event for Pilot International,” Cross said. “I hope this group leads the charge for leadership and growth from the college and young professional demographic.”

Cross said that there was a time when Compass was established and had members.

“In the 1990s, Compass started to phase out,” Cross said. “With the establishment of Anchor Club, financial problems and lack of growth, it completely phased out.”

Lisa Patterson , director of the executive committee of Pilot International, said that each chartering member will occupy a place in history.

“No other member will ever be known as the ‘chartering members’ of the first Compass Club chartered following the re-establishment of Compass,” Patterson said. “And we will be here to help and guide the new members.”

The Compass Club is only for ages 18 to 26.

Christopher Smith, Charter Club Member

For the club to be chartered there needed to be five members.  They include Katrine Christensen, Elisabeth Christensen, Kami Price, Heidi Cross and Taylor Smith.  Christopher Smith, a reporter covering new releases, recently joined increasing the club membership to six.

The Compass Club of Covington County is required to have six meetings per year and meetings may be held electronically, giving young adults from Covington County attending college in other locations or states the opportunity to be a member.
