How many Anchor Club members does it take to volunteer? Only 30!

June 20, 2016 By Claire Wells

anchor

The 2015–16 Alpine High School Anchor Club chose 5 service projects at the beginning of the year and are serving on committees dedicated to raising money for those projects and, perhaps more important, working hard to see project goals realized.

Anchors have worked the monthly food distributions at the Food Pantry of Alpine and participated in Trick or Treat for Hunger, walked dogs, participated in adoption drives, and socialized with cats at the Alpine Humane Society. They walked with the Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend to bring awareness to domestic violence, and worked at the Déjà vu Thrift Store. They carved pumpkins for the Sunshine House’s Halloween party, helped with Meals on Wheels, and participated in the Sunshine House’s Wild West Fund-Raiser and Dance-a-Thon. And if that weren’t enough, they helped the Alpine Public Library with the Art Walk Silent Auction, serve on the library’s Teen Advisory Board, and are producing videos about books that address young people’s different interests.

Club members chose the projects and are funding their participation in the projects with various fund-raisers.

The Pilot Club of Alpine chartered the Anchor Club in 1981 and has worked closely with it since.
