PI 2016-2017 Secretary
A member of the Pilot Club of South Bend, Indiana, Deb has been a Pilot since 1995. In addition to holding numerous club and Michigan/Indiana District offices through the years, she served as 2010-2012 Pilot International Foundation Trustee, Pilot International Director in 2013-2014 and 2015-2016, and was appointed to PI’s 2014-2015 Compass Committee, as well as chairing the PI Election Committee in 2015-2016.
Outside of Pilot, Deb has been an Indiana High School Mock Trial coach and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Fluent in Spanish, for two summers Deb was the director of the Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages for high school students in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. She has served as a motivational speaker and auctioneer for Pilot clubs in Texas and in Kansas, infusing common sense and humor into her presentations. Deb has also been known to serve as auctioneer at Pilot International Conventions, helping to raise funds for Pilot International and the Founder’s Fund.
Deb has been a practicing attorney for over 35 years. Over the course of her legal career, she has maintained a solo practice, served as the first female assistant city attorney for the City of Mishawaka, and was a public defender for St. Joseph County, Indiana, defending all Spanish-speaking felony defendants in St. Joseph County for almost 15 years. Deb has been married to her husband, Ken for 37 years. They have two children, Rob, a family medicine doctor, and Kate, a social worker. Deb is currently taking a hiatus from legal work to concentrate on Pilot and spoiling her first grandson, Zach.
