Collett was born in Arkansas, grew up in Tennessee, and Mississippi has been her home since 1975. She graduated from Freed-Hardeman University and holds a B.S. in Office Administration from Harding University. She earned a M.Ed. and Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi.
Her career included 26 years as a counselor and administrator in the New Albany Public Schools, and seven years as an assistant professor at the University of Mississippi. Following her retirement, she served as a trainer and evaluator for the Mississippi Department of Education. She is a former recipient of the prestigious Milken Educator Award.
Pilot has been an important part of Collett’s life since she joined the Pilot Club of New Albany in 1977. She has held numerous positions in her club and district, and served as 1995-96 Governor of the Mississippi District. She has attended 13 Pilot International Conventions.
She currently volunteers as the Executive Director for the New Haven Center for Special Needs Adults, and devotes time to other community activities including UNITE Community Foundation, New Albany Symphony League, and Retired Education Personnel Association.
Collett and her husband, Tony, were married 41 years at the time of his death in 2014.
