North Carolina District

The Winston-Salem Pilot Club was the first Pilot club to be chartered in North Carolina in 1934. Since that time over 70 years ago, the NC District has grown to a current total of 30 Pilot Clubs from the Mountains, Foothills, Piedmont, Sandhills and Coastal Plain regions of our state. Each of these Pilot Clubs is diverse and tailors their service activities to suit the requirements of their own communities. We gather together twice a year for our annual District Convention and Fall Council meetings to share fellowship and to learn new things. Several of our clubs in close proximity to each other have formed groups that also meet on a regular basis.

Pilot clubs in the North Carolina District support Pilot International's signature project, BrainMinders, and Project LifeSaver in addition to other community service projects of special interest in their neighborhoods. Since 2003-2004, the District Project has been a banner project.

The goal of the District Project is to have every club in the District to submit a banner that was painted by an individual with developmental disabilities. The theme varies from year to year. The banners are submitted to the chairperson in time for them to be displayed at the District Convention in May. Following convention, the banners are available for display in Pilot communities across the state.

The purpose of the project is to:

1.Educate the public about brain-related disorders, specifically developmental disabilities, through the banner exhibition and with publicity about brain-related disorders;

2.Showcase the talents and abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities;

3.Bring visibility to Pilot, both on the local club level and on the District level.

If you are interested in joining a group that promotes friendship and service above all, please contact one of the Pilot Clubs in our district. If you don't find one close to you, let us know and we'll work with you to start a Pilot Club in your area.
