FellowshipRegardless of affiliation, size, or composition, one thing is true of all Anchor Clubs: they exist to provide volunteer service to those in need. Like their sponsoring Pilot Clubs, Anchors Clubs take on service projects that will meet the needs of their schools and communities.

Check out what clubs are doing, you may want to try one of these projects...

The Anchor Club of Enterprise High School, AL co-sponsored with SADD the "Day of the Dead." The purpose was to make students aware of the fact that a teenager dies in an accident every 28 minutes (many of which are alcohol or speed related). The Grim Reaper took a person from class every 28 minutes throughout the day to emphasize this fact. The faces of the students were painted to make them appear dead and a sign was hung around the neck of each indicting how they died. Each student then returned to classes and could not talk for the remainder of the day.

The Anchor Club of Tokyo, Japan assisted children with disabilities at a summer camp in Yamagata Prefecture. Around 600 children stayed in a dormitory where the Anchors helped with meals, baths, crafts, games, and cleaning the grounds. When first working with the children, Anchors were concerned about being able to communicate with and understand them. However, they built a wonderful friendship with these very special children and on the last day of camp sang a goodbye song with tears in their eyes. The Anchors went to help the children; but ended up learning a lot about real friendship.

Anchor Clubs can also apply for a matching grant through the PIF's matching Grant Program which will allow them to expand a project and increase their service. By relying on each members' strengths and friendships within the group, Anchors are able to make a lasting impact upon their communities.
