The Mississippi district was founded in 1930, and was incorporated with the Louisiana district on July 19, 1978, as the Louisiana/ Mississippi district of Pilot International. These two wonderful districts grew and decided to separate in 1986. The Mississippi district of Pilot International was incorporated on December 12, 1988, with Karen McFerrin of Mantachie, MS, serving as its first governor. Currently, the Mississippi district has 22 clubs and 500 members, and sponsors a very strong Anchor Club program for youth. The district is proud of its Honor Wall Status with the Pilot International Foundation, and is delighted to be one of the Foundation’s $250 Districts.
Pilot Clubs in the Mississippi district sponsor many worthwhile and successful projects. Some of these projects include: Heady Hurdle-Pilot Clubs of Oxford and Jackson; Law Enforcement Picnic for elected offficials-Pilot of Fulton; Lighthouse Lodge (housing for burn victims’ families)-Pilot Club of Greenville; the Pilot Club of West Point gives $300 toward a nursing scholarship; the Pilot Club of Houston sponsors an award-winning Anchor youth program; and the Pilot Club of Louisville received a $500 matching scholarship from National Service Scholars Program for a student from Louisville High School.
